Congressman Himes Awards "Toons For Ten" Participants

Congressman Himes Awards "Toons For Ten" Fundraiser Participants

The Greenwich Cartooning Chronicles after school program celebrated 10 years by hosting its first fundraiser, “Toons For Ten,” to raise camper scholarships for the Greenwich Music & Art Camp's 2014 season. "Congratulations to the winners and to everyone else who participated in Toons for Ten,” said Congressman Jim Himes. “The arts are an important part of every child’s development, and I am pleased to see so many children demonstrating their artistic abilities while helping raise money for a great cause.”

The event, which was free for all participants and co-sponsored by Town of Greenwich, took place on May 17th at Eastern Greenwich Civic Center (EGCC).  Hundreds of cartoon drawings were available for purchase, along with a live raffle and t-shirts sold by student volunteers.  Said EGCC Director Billie Schock, “With the help of event participants and our generous sponsors, the fundraiser was a complete success and raised $1,000 for camper scholarships!”  To commemorate the occasion, The Greenwich Cartooning Chronicles published a special edition of the newsletter’s 10th issue which was distributed free of charge.

The event featured artwork by students from over 15 Greenwich Schools. Central Middle School student Ben Simon beat out over 25 entries to win 1st place in the “Toons For Ten” poster contest, while 2nd place went to Parkway School student Ava Herzog and 3rd place to Eastern Middle School student Zack Samuel.  Himes showed his support by sending certificates of achievement to featured artists, contest winners, and recipients of the Alumni Award.

"Toons For Ten" event director Phil Lohmeyer presented a check for $1,000 to Dept. of Parks & Rec. representatives Sue Snyder and Rich Ernye on June 24th, at the first meeting of Greenwich Music & Art Camp’s 78th season.  Contributions to the “Toons For Ten” event included painting stations by Painting With a Twist, cartoon drawing by Greenwich Cartooning Chronicles, iPad animation stations by New Lebanon School PTA, nuggets and fries by Garden Catering, décor by Avon Theatre and Greenwich Party, music & entertainment by Huddle Up Sports, raffle by Vineyard Vines and YMCA of Greenwich, photography by Jack Dog Studio, printing by Minuteman Press of Greenwich, and funding by A.G.
